ARTIST PARTICIPATION POLICY
Below is the Alabama Worldwide Local Hip Hop Artist Participation Policy.
This policy acts as an extension/addendum/rider to the Alabama Worldwide Local Hip Hop Website Terms and Conditions of Use.
This policy applies to any person or entity that has an Artist Profile on AWLH.
This policy constitutes a binding contract between Alabama Worldwide Local Hip Hop and you, the listed artist.
This policy may change at any time with or without notice, so please review it often and thoroughly.
If you disagree with and/or are unwilling and/or are unable to comply with any part of this policy, please do not request an artist listing.
If after you have requested an artist listing, you find that you disagree with and/or are unwilling and/or are unable to comply with any part of this policy, please retract your request for a listing and/or ask us to close and delete your Artist Profile.
If you have any questions regarding this policy, please fill out our Artist Inquiry Form and we will contact you within 72 hours.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE
Group 1: Rappers from Alabama
Artists need to be seriously pursuing a rap career Artists don’t need to have recorded or released an album or single Artists don’t need to be in the process of recording an album or single While it’s not required, artists are encouraged to provide at least one song to post on the site.
These selections can come from any of the following sources.
- Demo’s (We can post as many songs from your demo as you’d like.)
- New and previously released singles
- Songs from new and previously released albums albums (We can post as many songs from your album(s) as you’d like.)
- Music videos Other audio and/or video recording of the artist free-styling over an original or royalty-free track or a cappella
(Note: This would work well for artists who have never recorded, but want people to hear and/or see what they have to offer)
- Other audio and/or video recording of the artist performing his/her own written lyrics over an original or royalty-free track or a cappella

HOW TO GET LISTED
Complete and submit the Artist Sign-up Form that is posted on the site.*
The submitted information will be reviewed for errors, omissions, duplicates and falsities.
If necessary, we will call to clarify or verify some of the information provided.**
Upon satisfactory completion of the review, the majority of artists will be immediately listed on the site.
While the vast majority of artists who sign up will be listed on the site with no questions, we reserve the right to deny any artist the privilege of being listed on the site for any reason or for no reason and without notice or explanation.
* Do not submit a form for someone else without that person’s knowledge and permission.
** Please make sure your contact information is correct. If we are unable to verify your information, we may refuse to list you or your group.
ARTIST PROFILES
Once you have been approved, we will create your Artist Profile. Every artist listed on the site will have a profile that includes some or all of the information listed below. The artist will be asked to provide most of this information at the time of sign-up.
- Stage Name
- Group Roster
- Contact Info
- Artist’s Website and/or /MySpace Link
- Label’s Name
- Biography
- Discography
- Performance Schedule
- Multimedia (audio files; video files; photo files)
- Advertisements Links (for those artists who have also purchased ad space -- The link would send the user to the artist’s advertiser profile or directly to an ad)
The information included in the artist profiles must be kept up to date at all times. Continual failure to keep your profile up to date may result in your profile being removed from the site.
NEWS ITEMS
Please be sure to keep us up to date on what is going on with hip-hop in Alabama and about you both as an artist and personally. The more information you provide and the more often you provide that information, the more often we are able to update the site with fresh content. Sites with content that is updated regularly and often are more likely to be listed when people do online searches for something like “Alabama Rappers”, “Southern Hip-hop”, “Rap Music”, etc. The more often the site is listed, the more people will be exposed to and visit the site. The more people visit the site, the more people will get to see your profile and hear your music.
What is a News Item?
Just about anything you think is news-worthy can be submitted as news items. Here are just a few examples.
- Artist A is leaving his label.
- Artist B is expecting a baby
- Group 1 has lost a group member.
- Artist C, Artist D and Group 2 are going on tour together.
- Group 3 was involved in a car wreck.
- Group 4 is suing Artist E
- Artist F is starting her own label
- Artist G’s mother died.
- Group 5 is shooting a new music video
- Group 6 was involved in a fight at the club
- Artist H has just been signed to a record label
- Artist I is getting married.
- Group 7 is scheduled to perform at some huge hip-hop event

How We Research and Verify News Items
In many cases, we will be unable to just “take your word for it” when you submit news. In these cases we will research and verify that the information is true and accurate. This can be done in any of the following ways:
Ask questions of the person(s) submitting the information (the submitter).
Perform an on-the-spot interview with the submitter.
Set up an interview with the submitter at a later date.
Contact any other parties involved and ask questions, interview or ask for a statement about the information provided.
What We Do With Unverifiable News Items
If we can’t verify a news item to our satisfaction, we will most likely not post the information.
If we do post a story that can’t be fully verified, it will be categorized and visibly labeled as a Rumor, not News.
SUBMITTING MULTIMEDIA (PHOTO/AUDIO/VIDEO) FILES
Fans and industry representatives don't just want to sit and read a list of albums you've released. They want to be able to see you and hear your music. They want to feel like you're there with them. Talent recruiters in particular need to be able to see and hear a broad range of material in order to be able to make a decision about whether or not to consider signing you to their label.
In order to fully show off your skills and abilities as an artist, you should provide as much multimedia content as possible.
What Types of Multimedia Files Can be Posted?
Some of the items that artists will be able to post on our site are…
- Video Files
- Interviews
- Performance Videos
- Music Videos
File Submission Guidelines
Every file submission will be reviewed before it is posted on the site.
Please make sure that all submissions are of good quality and that they look and sound good.
Edited versions of multimedia files are strongly encouraged but are not normally required. However, there may be times that we will request or require editing of lyrics, content and/or images that we deem too strong, objectionable or offensive to be posted on our site.
- Censorship Requests are voluntary. Failure or refusal to comply with a Censorship Request is not likely to result in the submission being denied.
- Censorship Requirements are mandatory. Failure or refusal to comply with a Censorship Requirement may result in your submission being denied.
While the vast majority of submissions will be accepted with no questions, we reserve the right to deny a multimedia file submission for any reason or for no reason and without notice or explanation.
Below are a few examples of situations where we might deny a file submission.
- Bad quality: blurry photos, bad sound, bad video
- Incompatible file formats
- Failure or refusal to comply with a Censorship Requirement
TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS FOR SUBMITTING AUDIO, PHOTO AND VIDEO FILES
Please submit your files with the highest image, sound and video quality possible, making sure to stay within the following parameters.
Photo
The file should be submitted in jpeg (preferred) or gif format.
The file should be no more than 600W x 600H.
The file resolution should be 72dpi.
We prefer that the file name be formatted as follows: (artistname_briefdescription.filetypeextension)
Audio
The file should be submitted in MP3 format.
The bit rate should be no larger than 128 kbps.
We prefer that the file name be formatted as follows: (artistname_songname.filetypeextension)
Video
The maximum file size is 30B. 1
The file should be submitted in FLV format. 2
We prefer that the file name be formatted as follows: (artistname_videoname.filetypeextension). 3
1 If your file is too big to send via e-mail, ask us how to send it via ftp.
2 Many file-types can be converted to FLV using file-converters that can be found for free online.
If you do not have access to a file converter, we should be able to convert the file for you.
3 If you prefer, we can also embed your You Tube videos into your artist profile page. Please note that these videos are not compatible with our video player. They can only be embedded into a webpage, and in most cases that page will be your profile page.
LEGAL
Alabama Worldwide Local Hip-Hop does not claim ownership of multimedia files you submit or make available for inclusion on the site.
However, posting a multimedia file entitles AWLH to use said files however we see fit both online and offline without further compensation to the artist, contributor or owner. By posting or submitting these files, you are granting AWLH a worldwide, royalty-free and non-exclusive license(s) to use, distribute, reproduce, modify, adapt, publicly perform and publicly display the files on alabamaworldwidelocalhiphop.com
- for the purposes of providing and promoting the service to which the content was submitted or made available
- for the purpose for which the content was submitted
- to incorporate the content into other works in any format or medium now known or later developed
By posting a multimedia file on our site, you are confirming that you are the creator, owner and copyright holder of all submitted materials and that you have the legal right to submit said file.
If you submit a multmedia file and you are not the creator/owner/copyright holder of that file, you are confirming that you have received permission from the owner and/or copyright holder to submit said file.
In particular, if you submit any song containing samples or snippets of other artist's work, you are confirming that you have received permission from the owner and/or copyright holder to use said sample or snippet.
If you submit or post a performance that was filmed in a privately owned business such as a nightclub or amphitheater, please make sure that you have the owner’s or manager’s permission to shoot the video before filming and/or that the owner or manager has no problem with the video being posted on our site.
